Outreach Services

The NDDCB has taken measures to expand its services to the grass root level by extending the outreach drug prevention and treatment programmes to the district level. This has been further enhanced by improving the facilities and increasing the number of outreach officers assigned to Grama Niladhari divisions in high prevalence areas in Colombo and suburbs as well as in outstation areas.

 

Objectives of the outreach

 

To extend Board's services (prevention, treatment and rehabilitation) to drug dependents and their families, high risk groups in community and the general public.

 

To establish and maintain a communication network between Schools, Grama Niladaries, Samurdhi Officers, Divisional Secretaries, Social Service Officers, Principals and Religious Leaders to develop programmes on discouraging the use of drugs conducted by the Board.

 

To evaluate the effect / success of aforesaid programmes by carrying out continuous follow up activities.

 

To provide prevention and treatment services to drug users, their families and to the general public.

  • Drug Free Model Village

    Outreach unit of the NDDCB has started new outreach programme in the Kahapola Village at Piliyandala DN Division on 2nd of May 2012. The objectives of the programme was to build a drug free model village and provided NDDCB services to the villagers. According to the available statistical data ,kahapola village is the one of the high drug prevalence areas in the piliyandala DN division. Read More

  • Mobile Drug Awareness Programmes in Underserved Settlements in Colombo

    The Board has recently expended outreach drug prevention activities to the Underserved Settlements in Colombo through the outreach officers as it has been recognized as a high drug prevalence city. Outreach officers are the key social mobilizes who are working closely with the drug dependents to recover them from the addiction as well as to make aware the public on drug prevention and treatment services of the Board. The Bank of Ceylon sponsored these programmes. Objectives of the programmes were :

      To make aware the public on drug prevention and treatment services of the Board .
      To reduce the vulnerability of youth in high risk areas towards drug abuse.
      To register & admit drug dependents for NDDCB treatment centers.
  • Poster Campaign- Colombo

    Another campaign and drug prevention programme conducted at Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya conducted by the Mr.Pradeepkumara, Asst,Outreach Officer and Colombo PTRAs (Outreach) 9th to 12th of September 2011.
